Lampyridae is a family of insects in the beetle order Coleoptera. They are winged beetles, and commonly called fireflies or lightning bugs for their conspicuous crepuscular use of bioluminescence to attract mates or prey. Fireflies produce a “cold light”, with no infrared or ultraviolet frequencies. This chemically-produced light from the lower abdomen may be yellow, green, or pale red — wavelengths from 510 to 670 nanometers. There are 2,000 species of firefly found in temperate and tropical environments. Many are in marshes or in wet, wooded areas where their larvae have abundant sources of food. These larvae emit light and are often called “glowworms”, particularly in Eurasia. In the Americas, “glow worm” also refers to the related Phengodidae.

Ice Swimming with Belugas

A 38-year old photographer Andrey Nekrasov took these amazing photos of divers swimming with beluga whales underneath the ice of White Sea.

The beluga or white whale (Delphinapterus leucas) is an Arctic and sub-Arctic species of cetacean. It is one of two members of the family Monodontidae, along with the narwhal. This marine mammal is commonly referred to simply as the beluga or sea canary due to its high-pitched twitter. It is up to 5 meters (16 ft) in length and an unmistakable all-white color with a distinctive protuberance on the head. From a conservation perspective, the beluga is considered “near threatened” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature; however the sub population from the Cook Inlet in Alaska is considered critically endangered and is under the protection of the United States’ Endangered Species Act.

Underwater Feeding Of The White Tiger

Tigers are just big cats. Here are the photos of a white tiger catching and eating his meal under water. This is so interesting since this animal is even chewing underwater. This is called a true committing to the work. I am not sure if this animal could smell the meat, but surely never lost its way trough the water. Lot of underwater photos are taken, but this is something really unique. I hope you’ll like it as I did.

Funny Little Mongoose

This lovely animals can be found in South Africa and Botswana and they are called meerkats it is African name and they are part of the big mongoose family. As you can see from these photos they live in big groups, which numbers to 20 members. They are small, so they must be very careful. You can see in this photos their curious faces and it looks like they are to ask you “what are you doing here and what does that machine does?” Their faces are almost funny, but must say that heed is appreciated in this part of the world…
