Amazing Chinese Pyramids

Chinese pyramids are ancient mausoleums and burial mounds built to house the remains of several early emperors of China and their imperial relatives. About 38 of them are located around 25 kilometers (16 mi) – 35 kilometers (22 mi) north-west of Xi’an, on the Qin Chuan Plains in Shaanxi Province. The most famous is the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor, northeast of Xi’an and 1.7 km west of where the Terracotta Warriors were found. Chinese pyramids were also built during the Han, Tang, Song, and Western Xia dynasties. They have flat tops, and thus are more similar in shape to the Teotihuacan pyramids north-east of Mexico City, Mexico than to the pyramids in Giza, Egypt. Although known in the West for at least a century, their existence has been made controversial by sensationalist publicity and the problems of Chinese archaeology in early 20th century.

The usual definition of what a galaxy is: ‘An island universe’, or ‘A vast collection of stars’ is not wrong, but it is misleading. Because of the vast distances that separate stars even in the most densely packed regions of most galaxies, a better definition is: ‘A vast formation of plasma clouds that contain electrical currents and occasional, widely distributed tiny lumped points of matter called nebulae, stars and planets.’ The shape that characterizes most galaxies was first described by Hannes Alfven in 1981. Natural vs Make-Up

Many modern women can’t fathom leaving home without laying on at least some makeup, and sometimes we are glad for it. However, see these with and without makeup photo comparisons to decide for yourself whether or not makeup worked its magic.

Elmira is a student and she uses make-up only when she is going to a party.

Bella is a designer; she uses make-up every day and can hardly believe that people will see her photo with no make-up on.

Karakoz is a housewife. She says: “After my child was born, I understood that a woman can look beautiful without any make-up.”

Sam is a stylist and a go-go dancer. He uses make-up before every performance.

Dinara used make-up for the first time in her life in the 10th grade. She doesn’t use make-up very often now and believes that a woman should look natural. However, she does occasionally use foundation and lip-gloss.

Elena is a shoe salesman. She doesn’t like to experiment and prefers a more natural look.

Victoria never leaves her house without make-up and ends up spending most of her morning on it. She wakes up at least two hours ahead of her first class in order to afford herself enough time to put on her face.

Olga believes that one needs to be taught how to use make-up correctly. She is chief steward on AirAstana. She used mascara for the first time at 15 years old. However, she washed it away when she went back home so that her mother would not see it.

Tatiana is a pensioner. She likes a natural look and only uses make-up for special events.

Aksere is a student who believes that make-up should be an essential part of modern people’s lives. She believes it helps attract attention.

Transvestites Before and After Make-up

Transvestism is the practice of cross-dressing, which is wearing clothing traditionally associated with the opposite sex. Transvestite refers to a person who cross-dresses; however, the word often has additional connotations. Cross-dressing is the act of wearing clothing and other accoutrement commonly associated with a gender within a particular society that is seen as different than the one usually presented by the dresser. An unusual thing is that although the word transvestism was coined as late as the 1910s, the phenomenon is not new. It was referred to in the Bible and traces back to Ethiopia and the origin of man. Molotov Cocktail as an Art Form

The walls of an abandoned WWII hospital in Yekaterinburg in Russia are now full of amazing portrait installations. They are a bit blurry but that’s because they have been burnt with the Molotov cocktails, also know as the petrol bomb; basically a glass bottle filled with gasoline and a burning cloth on top. These huge portraits are of fallen WWII soldiers, and they’re made from white bandages. A group of young artist has made them and put up on walls before they hit them with Molotov cocktails, and the effect it gets is amazing; they call the installation “Eternal Flame”. Truly a great and urban way to honor the fallen soldiers. Speaking of urban art, the street artist MTO has made some amazing graffiti portraits.

Cat with Wings

In China’s Sichuan province, something very strange happened to Feng’s cat during a hot spell. The little tom sprouted two bumps on his back and, within a short time, the kitty looked like it was ready for take off as the bumps became what looked like wings! While the wings contain bones, the cat has no control of them and certainly cannot use them to fly. Scientists say that the growths are due to a genetic condition than can be triggered by poor grooming or a skin condition. Other cats have also grown “wings” in the area. Check it out.

Next time you recline in a dentist chair dreading the Novocain-numbed sting of a drill, let your mind drift to India where dentistry is performed on the street by vendors. Maybe then you’ll be a little more grateful of how good you have it! (Some of these pictures are from China as well). In India, street services are plentiful, with dentists operating alongside other street services, such as apothecaries, repairmen, and barbers. These practitioners charge far less than licensed dentists, often charging as little as 125 rupees for a procedure such as a bridge—which, at a licensed dentist, could be as expensive as 10,000 rupees. Amazing Rock Balancing

In what must be an incredible show of patience and preciseness, there are people in this weird world we all share that make a practice of balancing seemingly implacable rocks on top of each other. The result is surreal and quiet beautiful… if for nothing more than its apparent impossibility. Rock balancing is an art, discipline, or hobby depending upon the intent of the practitioner, in which rocks are balanced on top of one another in various positions. Rock balancing can be a performance art, a spectacle, or a devotion, depending upon the interpretation by its audience. Essentially, it involves placing some combination of rock or stone in arrangements which require patience and sensitivity to generate, and which appear to be physically impossible while actually being only highly improbable. The rock balancer may work for free or for pay, as an individual or in a group, and their intents and the audiences’ interpretations may vary given the situation or the venue.

Holes in A Living Cows

Hole-y Cow! These cows have been given a fistula, a hole directly into the stomach that scientists can reach into and study to see how certain foods get digested. Through this kind of work, better food can be concocted and studies into stomach cancer and other problems can be conducted. Although it looks inhumane, the cows don’t seem to mind. Animals can live a surprising amount of time with a permanent hole to their stomach, especially if it is a surgically made fistula. Nowadays, agricultural scientists learn about the digestive system of cattle by putting holes in cows – and the cows stay alive and well. These cows (fitted with a sealing cover called a “cannula”) each have a hole into their stomach. Through this hole one can extract food caught mid-stream through the digestive system. Take a look at this bizarre thing.

Interesting Lie – Inflatable Crowd

In need of a massive crowd of people, but don’t have thousands of adoring followers at your disposal? Why not go with Inflatable Crowd? Next time you watch a movie that contains a literal cast of thousands watching from the stands, remember… movies lie. Since 2002, our Inflatable Crowds have been seen (but not noticed) in over 80 feature films many TV shows commercials. Outsourcing the role of “background actors” to inanimate objects isn’t new, of course; producers have used cardboard cutouts in the past. But those two-dimensional performers severely limit usable camera angles. And adding a CG crowd can cost $50,000 per scene. Inflatables look real and are affordable, with a day rate starting at just $10 per head, roughly a tenth the typical rate for a human extra. Next time you’re watching a movie and there’s a scene set at a sporting event or political rally, look very closely at the cheering masses. Are they human? Or just gussied up balloon manimals?

Glass Beach in California

If you were to journey to the place we now know as Glass Beach in 1949, you would have discovered an unrestricted dump on an otherwise marvelous stretch of the ocean front. For some reason, California residents of Fort Bragg thought that the scenic viewpoint was the perfect place to dump all kinds of dangerous stuff
into the ocean from chemicals to abandoned cars to tons and tons of broken glass.

After 1949, the eighteen year-old unrestricted dump was suddenly restricted as, surprise surprise, people found out that it was dangerous but instead of cleaning up the godawful mess, the trash was left to fester and roll in the crashing surf.

Fortunately, mother nature is quite a bit smarter than us when it comes to handling garbage. Over the years, the pounding waves crashed and rolled the broken glass on the beach until eventually, the sharp edges were worn into billions of glass pebbles. People began to rediscover the beach which was now sparkling with rainbow hued sands. When the state of California noticed that people were visiting the site of the dump, they annexed the beach and made it part of MacKerricher State Park. The rusting hulks of old cars and appliances were hauled away and the miraculous testament to nature taking care of mankind’s failure is now a protected area that attracts thousands of visitors a year.

Facebook has been a blessing and nuisance to many, but for certain people it has caused nothing but trouble. See the wildest, stupidest and craziest stories of 2011 from the huge social website.

In November, a burglar signed into Facebook from a computer inside a home he broke into before sprinting from the scene. Unfortunately, he forgot to logout before he left.

In February, a mom was arrested for posting pictures of her baby and a bong on Facebook.

Tigo Arrington brought attention to himself by posting an implied threat to police on Facebook. When police went to investigate the threat, they found child porn on his computer and he was arrested.

Nikki Rasmussen was arrested for lighting her friend’s house on fire because her friend defriended her on Facebook.
A police report says that when an officer asked Nikki Rasmussen about Jen Harris, Rasmussen said “… the two are no longer friends due to a dispute over Facebook. According to Nikki, Jen is angry with her because she ended their friendship on Facebook.”

For about a year and a half, 54-year-old Bettysue Higgins embezzled $166,000 from her job at a law firm. She used most of this money to pay for virtual coins on YoVille and Mafia Wars.
In December, she was arraigned in court and faces up to 6 years in prison.

In October, a study came out that found 1 in 5 women would choose Facebook over sex.
Cosmo asked 2,000 of their readers “what would you rather live without for one full week: sex or Facebook?”, and 20% responded that they’d take rather have Facebook than sex.

He then assaulted her.

This man broke into someone’s car and stole their cellphone.
According to police, “The suspect apparently took a picture of himself on the victim’s phone, and due to her settings, it automatically uploaded to her Facebook page.”

In August, a woman successfully hired a hitman on Facebook after posting a message that offered $1,000 to anyone who would kill her ex-boyfriend.

In July, two dozen Dallas City Hall workers received counseling after a probe showed they spent too much time on Facebook.

In July, a 19-year-old Watertown, New York man was arrested after posting a two-minute video on Facebook that showed him ramming his car into trash cans set out along a quiet street.

In June, Sarah Palin posted a note on Facebook saying WTF stood for “Winning The Future.”

In February, an Egyptian man named his daughter Facebook.

In June, France banned radio and television news anchors from saying the words “Facebook” and “Twitter” on air.

In May, a study came out that said young people would rather lose their sense of smell instead of their social networks.
A McCann survey of 6,000 people aged 16 to 30 found that 53 percent of respondents would rather forfeit the ability to smell than lose access to social networking websites.

In April, after the Royal Wedding, the Pippa Middleton’s Ass Appreciation Society was started. It now has over 240,000 fans.

University of Georgia sophomore Nitesh Bhakta used Facebook to help foil an armed robbery in progress at his family’s home. The 20-year-old was in his room on his laptop when he heard his grandmother scream.
“As soon as I opened my door, I saw three hooded guys like all masked in black at the front door,” Bhakta said. “I shut my door, locked it, grabbed my laptop, went into the attic and hid.”
“I don’t think [Facebook] is really meant as a lifesaving tool, but it’s the only way I could think of contacting someone immediately to call for help,” he said.
So, as the intruders rifled through the home, Bhakta updated his Facebook status: “HELP, ROBBERS, NO PHONE.” In all caps, naturally.
“A lot of people thought it was a joke,” he said.
Fortunately his best friend, John Salter, took him seriously, notifying Bartow County sheriff’s deputies as Bhatka hid in the dark.

Crystal Yamnitzky and her boyfriend Robert Driscoll stole a $12,000 ring. Shortly after, Yamnitzky posted pictures of it on Facebook with the caption, “Look what Robby gave me. I love him so much.”
They were both arrested shortly after.

24-year-old Ashley Payne, a public high school English teacher in Georgia, was fired for having pictures of herself drinking wine on a European vacation posted on her Facebook page.

New Year in Thailand

A most common tradition of throwing water over one another is performed with fun by the people. It is conceived to bring good rains all year ahead. This is called Rohd Nam Songkran, meaning ‘The Pouring of Songkran Water’. Songkran celebrations leave joy and happiness on the faces of people. After performing all customs seriously, it’s time to have some blast. A Songkran procession takes place in Chiangmai (a famous place in Thailand) on April 15. Buddha images and idols are carried through the procession. It is accompanied by people of the city singing and dancing all around. Songkran celebrations are incomplete unless water is thrown on each other. People roam the streets with buckets of water and children play with water guns to drench people. Water is thrown to get rid off all the bad deeds and give a fresh welcome to the New Year. Songkran is celebrated to refresh and renew in the New Year. While playing with water, Thais keep wishing Sawatdee pi Maï, basically Happy New Year to all the people they come across. Enjoy.

The Most Extreme Baby Gymnastics

This is how one Chinese grandpa exercises with his seven-month grandson every morning… Every morning. Though, the grandfather says that it is very useful for baby’s health, it looks quite dangerous. Anyway, it is another culture. Sickening and appalling that a baby’s delicate body would be subject to those kinds of forces for such a long time. I really hope this is fake. Poor kid. Although it looks really funny, some people do not deserve to be parents, or like in this case, grandparents. Take a look these photos and this strange grandpa. Enjoy.

These Dolls Will Make You Feel the Fear. The only people who don’t find dolls creepy are the little girls who play with them and even they will cover the vacant porcelain expressions from staring at them before retiring to bed. Some people are afraid of clowns. I get that. These people don’t go to the circus and they don’t hire clowns for their child’s birthday party. Other people are afraid of birds, thanks to the 1963 Alfred Hitchcock movie. They avoid aviaries and don’t buy pets with feathers. And some people are afraid of creepy baby dolls. And how wouldn’t you? Take a look at them. Here’s a few really creepy dolls we would hate to share a room with.

Meet Harvii. Harvii’s hobby is kind of unique. This is Harvii, who has made it his sole purpose in life to get his picture taken with as many celebs as possible. This is his life goal, and so far he succeeded in hunting down about 1,000 celebs. These are some of his photographs. So far, he claims, he’s managed to hunt down about 1,000. Here’s 30 of our favourites (full disclosure: we didn’t look through them all.) His real name is Harvii and his nickname is “Rose Boy”. And he is living in south-west London, UK, according to reports. Kim Falardeau, who originally found Harvii, is a 20-year-old Canadian woman. She tracked him down via Facebook after hearing that his name was Harvii through a comment. I find it hilarious how he is actually 12 years old. Check out his photos with celebrities. Enjoy.

Meet Ernestine Shepherd a 74-year-old woman living in the United States was recognized as the oldest female bodybuilder by the Guinness Book of World Records. Ernestine Shepherd, 74, of Baltimore, United States has been crowned by the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest competitive female bodybuilder ever. She told the Washington Post: ‘Age is nothing but a number’. Ms Shepherd has impeccably toned ‘six-pack’ abs that are the marvel of her Baltimore fitness center. Her husband of 54 years, Collin Shepherd, says he ‘has trouble keeping guys away from her’. The Shepherds live in Baltimore with their son, 53, and grandson, 14. You have heard to saw a women having six packs muscles but never heard or saw about a woman having six packs who is 74 years old. Only started exercising at age 56… She is currently working as gym instructor for oldies. Take a look. Enjoy.

The Ice Princess

Kiira Korpi may not be the best athlete in this years winter Olympics, but she’s certainly the hottest. A figure skater from Finland, Kiira has opened the doors for many young Americans to choose their next Foreign Exchange destination to be her very own country. Korpi was born in Tampere, Finland. Her father, Rauno Korpi, coached the Finnish women’s hockey team to a bronze medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics. Korpi began skating at the age of five, following her older sister. She landed her first triple jump, a salchow, when she was 11 or 12. In Finland her nickname is Jääprinsessa (Ice Princess) due to her resemblance to Grace Kelly, the former Princess of Monaco. She is “widely regarded as one of the most beautiful women in figure skating. Check her out. Enjoy.

Welcome to the hotel California, such a lovely place, such a lovely face, plenty of room at the hotel California. Any time of year, you can find it here. Everyone knows this song by The Eagles. But have you ever dreamed to visit the legendary Hotel California in reality? The Hotel California is located in Todos Santos, a town on Mexico’s Baja California peninsula. It was founded by a Chinese immigrant in 1948. Since this was the only place in town where cold beer was served it soon became popular. That’s probably why The Eagles devoted their song to this place. The hotel’s complete renovation in 2002 transformed the original 16 rooms into 11 suites. Today this place is an icon that attracts many people. Check out this great photos of hotel California and enjoy.

Pet Hippo Humphrey Kills His Owner

Hippopotamus Humphrey was “like a son” to South African farmer Marius Els. The man raised his pet from the age of 5 months. Marius used to “ride” his 1,200 kg hippo’s back in the past. And now Mr. Els is gone. It’s not that safe to have a relationship with the most dangerous animal in Africa. Marius was gouged by his 6-year-old pet to death. The animal repeatedly bit his owner in a fierce attack. The 41-year-old man’s mutilated body submerged in a river. He had been dead for an unknown period of time. His death was tragic. Here’s way you shouldn’t own the most dangerous animal in Africa as a pet. Take a look.

The First Covers Of Well-known Magazines

From The Atlantic Monthly in 1857 to Wired in 1993, here’s a fascinating look at the covers of the first issues of famous magazines, including, I’m sure, at least one of your favorites. Let’s take a look, what the very first covers of the most famous magazines in the world looked like. It seems that Rolling Stone was originally a newspaper. It turns out, Vogue came out already in 1892, and Lifestyle in the nineteenth century! Some of the covers, like National Geographic’s, are simple cover pages with the title and issue date. Others, like Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar – which feature drawings of stylish 19th century women — are just older versions of their current form.
