Fantasy author Jim C. Hines made the decision to mimic the poses of a variety of female characters from fantasy book covers, which resulted in these humorous and sometimes frightening. Jim C. Hines (born April 1974) is an American fantasy writer. He was a first-place winner of the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Award in 1998 with his story “Blade of the Bunny”. He is the author of the Goblin Quest fantasy trilogy, comprising Goblin Quest, Goblin Hero and Goblin War. He also edited the anthology Heroes in Training with Martin H. Greenberg. Victims of Intergalactic Sequester

Portraits of people who claim to be abducted by aliens are placed next to their hand-drawn images which are supposed to depict the details of the abduction. It’s easy to dismiss people who claim to have been abducted by aliens as nutters, and let’s face it, they invariably are. There’s something about the geographical consistency, Twilight Zone cliches and mad, staring eyes that makes it hard to take them seriously. But New York photographer Steven Hirsch has put away his cynicism, and has given a voice to these victims of intergalactic sequester. Along with this, he’s also given them some crayons and a slightly demeaning photographic portrait of themselves to help people believe their ridiculous stories. Take a look. Enjoy.

I know what you’re thinking when you look upon these butt-ugly birds. Why, God, why would you create such a putrid piece of poultry? Don’t blame God for these foul fowl, but rather the scientists at Israelis Rehovot Agronomy Institute near Tel Aviv who actually created these skinned squabs on purpose! The thinking is that these genetically engineered abominations will be able to withstand warmer temperatures and won’t have to rely on expensive cooling units thus making chicken less expensive and more practical for many third world nations… not to mention that plucking will become much easier. Extracto de Rana – A Drink in Peru

Forget coffee! If you need a real eye-opener in the morning, all you have to do is head to Peru and drink a drink that not only wakes you up, but also serves as a potent aphrodisiac due to its second most notable ingredient, a plant root called the Maca. Not only does it give you a raging boner, but it is also said to cure bronchitis, asthma, and sluggishness. It’s called Extracto de Rana and it’s all the rage in Lima where the demand is high and the shops are bustling!

If you speak Spanish, you already know what’s coming…

Yes, it’s frog juice. No, the name isn’t some clever play on words… it’s juice made out of frogs. Seriously. Once you have a seat at one of the many booths selling this amphibious aphrodisiac, you’re asked to pick out the frog you want so, it’s kind of like a fancy restaurant and lobster… only disgusting.

After you mark one of these poor and defenseless froggies for death (again, just like a fancy restaurant, only sad) the kind-faced attendant beats the frogs head against the counter sending it to frog Valhalla. She strips the frog of its skin and then fills a blender with hot white bean broth, some honey, raw aloe vera and a generous portion of maca to make your dick hard. Finally, as the blender chops the components of the drink into drinkable form, the frog is added with a satisfying crunch.

Mmmm… sexy. Peruvians are apparently nuts about the stuff and many shopkeepers claim that extracto de rana has replaced morning and afternoon coffee for many people.

Check out these exotic primates, some of them are cute and some of them are evil. The Pygmy Marmoset is the “storybook-cute” kind. The pygmy marmoset or dwarf monkey is a New World monkey native to the rainforest canopies of western Brazil, southeastern Colombia, eastern Ecuador, eastern Peru, and northern Bolivia. It is one of the smallest primates, and the smallest true monkey, with its body length ranging from 14 to 16 centimeters (5.5 to 6.3 in) (excluding the 15-to-20-centimetre (5.9 to 7.9 in) tail). Nicknames for this monkey often refer to its diminutiveness, for example: mono de bolsillo (“pocket monkey”), leoncito (“little lion”), and finger monkey.

Weird Towers of Third Reich

These concrete towers were unique Air Raid shelters of Nazi Germany, built to withstand the destructive power of WWII bombs and heavy artillery. Their cone shape caused bombs to slide down the walls and detonate only at a heavily fortified base. Cheaper to build above ground than to dig bunkers, they were quite effective, as it was possible to cram as many as 500 people inside. Plus the “footprint” of such tower was very small when observed from the air, so it was very hard for the bombers to ensure a direct hit. First appearing in 1936, they were quickly dubbed “cigarette stubbs” or “sugar beet heads”. Officially they were called Winkeltürme (Winkel Towers)- after their architect Leo Winkel of Duisburg. Winkel patented his design in 1934, and in the following years Germany built 98 Winkeltürme of five different types. Take a look. Enjoy.

Beautiful Girls and Trucks

Here’s a collection of photos of girls with huge chromed trucks. I don’t know why but they look pretty amazing together. These photos are made by Los Angeles fashion photographer Roger Snider. Roger Snider grew up in Miami, but he says the most lasting impression from his youth is the experience of road trips to his grandma’s country house in Virginia. This was mainly because of the opportunity to see Big Rigs on the toad and at truck stops. It was then that he determined to be a Big Rig driver when he grew up. He claims he had it all figured out by the time he was eight. Snider switched gears in college after taking his first photography class. A job in Miami in the early 90’s directed him to fashion photography, and after completing a BFA at the University of Florida, he moved to San Francisco to learn the business. He crossed the country again, working in fashion editorial and photographing in New York City. It was a chance meeting on a plane with film director Doug Pray that led Snider to photographing the stills for a documentary film about Big Rigs. This experience re-awakened his love for big and beautiful machines. And the rest is history, Snider says. Check out these girls and trucks. Enjoy.

Oh, National Geographic—what will you think of next? As the rest of us were downing greasy brunch food this weekend, these guys—scientists, engineers, and two balloon pilots—woke up at dawn to set free a real-life version of the house from Pixar’s hit film Up on a private airfield outside L.A. Measuring 16 feet by 16 feet and 18 feet high, the yellow house was buoyed by 300 8′ weather balloons—a total height of more than 10 stories—setting a new world record for the “largest balloon cluster flight ever attempted.” It reached an altitude of 10,000 feet and flew for an hour. An experiment launched by National Geographic, this house was equipped with several large balloons to simulate the flying house in Up. This experiment was conducted outside of Los Angeles. Burton Water Football Match

No one really knows how the annual Burton-on-the-Water football match began, but it has been played for over 100 years in the ankle-high waters of River Windrush, in Burton, Gloucester. The two competing teams have to follow normal football rules while they try and manage the ball in the water. It’s that time of year again when the usually peacefully trickling River Windrush is invaded by two boisterous teams of local players, battling it out for victory in the annual Burton-in-the-Water Football in the River match. Spectators are advised to wear waterproof clothes. The spectators usually number around one thousand. Take a look. Enjoy.

Dead Drops Project

The brainchild of artist Aram Bartholl, Dead Drops is an anonymous, offline, peer to peer file-sharing network in public space. USB flash drives are ‘injected’ into walls, buildings and curbs accessible to anybody in public space. Everyone is invited to drop or find files on a dead drop; All they have to do is plug their laptop to a wall, house, or pole to share their favorite files and data. Each dead drop is installed empty except a readme.txt file explaining the project. A dead drop or dead letter box is a method of espionage tradecraft used to pass items between two individuals using a secret location and thus does not require them to meet directly. Using a dead drop permits a case officer and agent to exchange objects and information while maintaining operational security. Check out this amazing project. Enjoy.

Hilarious Marathon Signs

As amazing as this sounds there are people in this world who run… for fun! I’m not sure what kind of fun that can be since the only time I ever run is when something dangerous is chasing me, but it looks like they’re having a good time, so who am I to judge? Even though I don’t understand the concept of fun running, I do understand smart-assery and sarcasm from the sidelines. These signs are so inspiring that they almost make me want to run a marathon. Yoda the Four Eared Cat

They say cats have nine lives but this one has four ears. Yoda is a Chicago cat with four ears. Valerie and Ted Rock found him in a local pub being “passed round by curious drinkers,” hopefully not like that scene in Lynch’s The Elephant Man. Apparently the abnormality can cause hearing problems, but Yoda has checked out fine and lives a perfectly normal four-eared life. Yoda’s extra ‘flaps’ are separate to the base of his skull, with one placed slightly behind the other. ‘The vet had never seen anything like it before,’ explains Valerie. Well, isn’t that the most heart-warming story of the day. Take a look. Enjoy.

Earth and It’s Tectonic Plates

Plate tectonics is a scientific theory that describes the large scale motions of Earth’s lithosphere. Plate tectonics is a relatively new theory and it wasn’t until the 1960′s that Geologists, with the help of ocean surveys, began to understand what goes on beneath our feet. T

The Earth’s surface is made up of a series of large plates. These plates are in constant motion traveling at a few centimeters per year. The ocean floors are continually moving, spreading from the center and sinking at the edges.

200 million years ago all of the present continents combined to form a single continent called supercontinent Pangea.

It initially split into two pieces. Laurasia – landmasses which today is in the northern hemisphere and Gondwana – landmasses in the southern hemisphere.

Here’s how the Earth looked like in the late Jurassic era, about 150 million years ago.

The Earth looked like this around 94 million years ago, during the late Cretaceous.

The process of tectonic plates movement continues. This is how scientists imagine the future of continent moving.

It is hard to imagine that these great big solid slabs of rock could wander around the globe. Scientists needed a clue as to how the continents drifted. The discovery of the chain of mountains that lie under the oceans was the clue that they were waiting for.

The edges of these plates, where they move against each other, are sites of intense geologic activity, such as earthquakes, volcanoes, and mountain building.

Eyjafjallajökull Volcano

You’ll have to figure out how to pronounce those on your own. Eyjafjallajökull is one of the smaller ice caps of Iceland, situated to the north of Skógar and to the west of Mýrdalsjökull. The ice cap covers the caldera of a volcano with a summit elevation of 1,666 meters (5,466 ft). The volcano has erupted relatively frequently since the last glacial period, most recently in 2010. Eyjafjallajökull consists of a volcano completely covered by an ice cap. The ice cap covers an area of about 100 square kilometers (39 sq mi), feeding many outlet glaciers. The main outlet glaciers are to the north; Gígjökull, flowing into Lónið, and Steinholtsjökull, flowing into Steinholtslón. The glacier is the 6th largest in Iceland. Take a look at this volcano. World’s Most Dangerous Bridge

The Hussaini Bridge in Pakistan is a harrowing experience, but commonplace to those who regularly use it. Known as the most dangerous bridge in use, it runs parallel to the original bridge which has already collapsed. One of the most scariest and dangerous bridges of the world is the Hussaini – Borit Lake Bridge in Hunza Pakistan. A bridge can prove to be dangerous for a variety of reasons; either because it’s very old, narrow, too high up above the land, over a quick river or if the wooden “floor” goes missing. What makes them dangerous is the fact that in spite of the condition of the bridge, they have to be used; as many a time, these pathways are the main or even the only way for the local inhabitants of a small village to reach a bigger city.
