Same-sex weddings are also officially allowed in Washington DC, Mexico City since March 2010 and Argentina since July. Vintage Photos of Tour de France

Le Tour de France is a bicycle race that covers approximately 3,600 kilometers (2,200 mi) throughout France and bordering countries. The race lasts three weeks and attracts cyclists from around the world. The race is broken into day-long segments, called stages. Individual times to finish each stage are totaled to determine the overall winner at the end of the race. The rider with the lowest aggregate time at the end of each day wears a yellow jersey. The course changes every year, but it has always finished in Paris. Since 1975, the climax of the final stage has been along the Champs-Élysées. The Tour de France is the best known and most prestigious of cycling three “Grand Tours”. The other two Grand Tours are the Giro d’Italia (Italy) held every May and the Vuelta a España (Spain) held every August–September. The 2010 Tour de France is currently in progress, from 3 July till 25 July 2010, from Rotterdam to Paris.

South Korean Mud Treatment Mask Festival

When talking of relaxing at the holidays and treating yourself with a facial treatment and a mud mask..well I am pretty sure that this was not the idea you had on your mind. More than two million people have attended the event this year on the annual mud festival which took place on a 3.5km stretch of pristine sand on Daecheon Beach, and it all began in 1993. Visitors can also take part in activities such as mud slides, mud wrestling, mud sculpting competitions, mud massages, mud prisons and a mud beauty competition. Children also are taking part in the event – enjoying being able to wallow in the gloopy substance and cover themselves from head to toe in mud. The event was originally started by a local cosmetic company wanting to promote their mud skincare range’s benefits. However, as well as having fun, the mud boasts rejuvenating properties due to its ‘nutrient-rich’ agricultural mineral. I think that this is the last thing on the participants mind while they are wrestling in mud. This is a great thing getting dirty and beautiful at the same time.

The Swimming Suits Shrinking Through The History

The invention of the railway, and the proliferation of rail travel in the mid 1800s made it possible for large numbers of people to visit coastal regions. In the 18th century women wore “bathing gowns” in the water; these were long dresses of fabrics that would not become transparent when wet, with weights sewn into the hems so that they would not rise up in the water. The men’s swim suit, a rather form-fitting wool garment with long sleeves and legs similar to long underwear, was developed and would change little for a century.In the 19th century, the woman’s two piece suit became common—the two pieces being a gown from shoulder to knees plus a set of trousers with leggings going down to the ankles. In the Victorian era, popular beach resorts were commonly equipped with bathing machines designed to avoid the exposure of people in swimsuits, especially to people of the opposite sex. In 1907 the swimmer Annette Kellerman from Australia visited the United States as an “underwater ballerina”, a version of synchronized swimming involving diving into glass tanks. She was arrested for indecent exposure because her swimsuit showed arms, legs and the neck. Kellerman changed the suit to have long arms and legs and a collar, still keeping the close fit that revealed the shapes underneath. She later starred in several movies, including one about her life. That is a long way back, and after that the swimming suits just started shrinking, and these days there is even some part of the swimming suit missing. Well these could be the results of the global warming, the suits are gone!

“Joe’s Jail”- Tent Jail Of Maricopa County Arizona

Joseph M. “Joe” Arpaio (born June 14, 1932) is an American law enforcement officer and the sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona. Arpaio promotes himself as “America’s Toughest Sheriff”. He has become controversial for his approach to operating the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. Arpaio set up a “Tent City” as an extension of the Maricopa County Jail. Tent City is located in a yard next to a more permanent structure containing toilets, showers, an area for meals, and a day room. It has become notable particularly because of Phoenix’s extreme temperatures.
During the summer of 2003, when outside temperatures exceeded 110 °F (43 °C), Arpaio said to complaining inmates, “It’s 120 degrees in Iraq and the soldiers are living in tents, have to wear full body armor, and they didn’t commit any crimes, so shut your mouths. Tent City is criticized by groups contending that there are violations of human and constitutional rights. One of Arpaio’s most visible public relations actions was the introduction of pink underwear, which the Maricopa County Sheriff’s website cites as being “world famous.” Arpaio subsequently started to sell customized pink boxers (with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s logo and “Go Joe”) as a fund-raiser for Sheriff’s Posse Association. Despite allegations of misuse of funds received from these sales, Arpaio declined to provide an accounting for the money.Arpaio’s success in gaining press coverage with the pink underwear resulted in him extending the use of the color. He introduced pink handcuffs, using the event to promote his book, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, America’s Toughest Sheriff.

American Influence in China

China, the most populated country in the world, continues to absorb Western culture. The chains of American fast-food restaurants pop up like mushrooms after the rain, American supermarkets and bars are opened, more American music, products and brands are sold. And after the Olympics of 2008 that took place in China, more and more students have started actively learning English language. So, it is safe to say that China is undergoing Americanization.
