Chinese Women in Socialist Posters

Lets see somewhat politicized propaganda posters focusing on the smiling woman’s face of socialism, as imagined by Maoist China artists in the 1950s and 1960s. These ladies, for the most part, look wholesome, well-fed and happy. Kudos to the artists, then, who conveyed this atmosphere the best (even if it was completely illusionary)… Except when they are intent on making a perfect kill. Behind the smiling faces hides the utmost dedication, incessant training and a glint of iron. Here are some truly inspiring examples of poster art. Molotov Cocktail as an Art Form

The walls of an abandoned WWII hospital in Yekaterinburg in Russia are now full of amazing portrait installations. They are a bit blurry but that’s because they have been burnt with the Molotov cocktails, also know as the petrol bomb; basically a glass bottle filled with gasoline and a burning cloth on top. These huge portraits are of fallen WWII soldiers, and they’re made from white bandages. A group of young artist has made them and put up on walls before they hit them with Molotov cocktails, and the effect it gets is amazing; they call the installation “Eternal Flame”. Truly a great and urban way to honor the fallen soldiers. Speaking of urban art, the street artist MTO has made some amazing graffiti portraits.

Amazing Eight Bit Fashion

Ever wish you could live in an old 8-bit Nintendo game? Japanese fashion designed Kunihiko Morinaga is bringing that dream one step close to reality with his new computer graphic-inspired fall collection. The collection features pixelated outfits, that much like 8-bit graphics look normal from afar, but blocky when you get close up to them. You can check out all the 8-bit models hitting runway in Tokyo here. What do you think about the outfits? Would you wear one? What would you say if you saw someone else sporting one out and about? The First Covers Of Well-known Magazines

From The Atlantic Monthly in 1857 to Wired in 1993, here’s a fascinating look at the covers of the first issues of famous magazines, including, I’m sure, at least one of your favorites. Let’s take a look, what the very first covers of the most famous magazines in the world looked like. It seems that Rolling Stone was originally a newspaper. It turns out, Vogue came out already in 1892, and Lifestyle in the nineteenth century! Some of the covers, like National Geographic’s, are simple cover pages with the title and issue date. Others, like Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar – which feature drawings of stylish 19th century women — are just older versions of their current form.

Self-Portraits Created Under Drug Influence

Some people take drugs to devise experiments. Artist Bryan Lewis Saunders, for example, takes drugs to draw himself under the influence. Even though he periodically suffers mild brain damage and becomes lethargic, he still continues his experiments and takes drugs that are given to him. See how his perception of the self changes in his drawings.

Realistic Angry Birds

Angry Birds is a puzzle video game developed by Finnish computer game developer Rovio Mobile. Inspired primarily by a sketch of stylized wingless birds, the game was first released for Apple’s iOS in December 2009. Since that time, over 12 million copies of the game have been purchased from Apple’s App Store. In the game, players use a slingshot to launch birds at pigs stationed on or within various structures, with the intent of destroying all the pigs on the playfield. As players advance through the game, new birds appear, some with special abilities that can be activated by the player. Angry Birds has been praised for its successful combination of addictive gameplay, comical style, and low price. Do these birds remind you of characters from a popular iOS game? They are genuine paintings made by Mohamed Raoof from India.

Nipple Painting

We were shown different iconic painting from the early 1900′s and were told to recreate the look. Amazing how art can be reflected in our lives on a day to day basis. Life and our surroundings are art in themselves – God’s beautiful masterpiece! Art goes hand in hand with my work as a makeup artist because modes of expressions and feelings must be created in order for the viewers to appreciate them aesthetically. Body painting, is a form of body art. Unlike tattoo and other forms of body art, body painting is temporary, painted onto the human skin, and lasts for only several hours, or at most (in the case of Mehndi or “henna tattoo”) a couple of weeks. Body painting that is limited to the face is known as face painting. Body painting is also referred to as (a form of) temporary tattoo; large scale or full-body painting is more commonly referred to as body painting, while smaller or more detailed work is generally referred to as temporary tattoos.

Cool Pencil Sculptures by Jen Maestre

My sculptures were originally inspired by the form and function of the sea urchin. The spines of the urchin, so dangerous yet beautiful, serve as an explicit warning against contact. The alluring texture of the spines draws the touch in spite of the possible consequences. The tension unveiled, we feel push and pull, desire and repulsion. The sections of pencils present aspects of sharp and smooth for two very different textural and aesthetic experiences. Paradox and surprise are integral in my choice of materials. Quantities of industrially manufactured objects are used to create flexible forms reminiscent of the organic shapes of animals and nature. Pencils are common objects, here, these anonymous objects become the structure. There is true a fragility to the sometimes brutal aspect of the sculptures, vulnerability that is belied by the fearsome texture. To make the pencil sculptures, I take hundreds of pencils, cut them into 1-inch sections, drill a hole in each section (to turn them into beads), sharpen them all and sew them together. The beading technique I rely on most is peyote stitch. I’m inspired by animals, plants, other art, Ernst Haeckel, Odilon Redon, mythology. In fact, it isn’t easy to specify particular sources of inspiration. Sometimes one sculpture will inspire the next, or maybe I’ll make a mistake, and that will send me off in a new direction said Jen Maestre.

The Secret History of KISS

Ron English is a pop pervert and prankster impresario, tweaking any nose that wanders within his grasp. His images are fun house mirror reflections of our increasingly bizarre popular culture, complete with weirdo lighting and acts of perplexing oddity. Due to their improbably bright palettes, Ron’s paintings almost give off their own light source. One wonders if radioactive isotopes might be employed to achieve this effect (Plutonium Yellow seems to be a favorite), as no other artist around seems to be able to “outshine” his work in quite the same way. He has also long used his work to comment upon American contemporary culture and its more egregious excesses and hypocrisies, all while delighting his audiences with his raucous, playful imagery. Most recently, Ron and his work appeared in the recent film Supersize Me, a film that skewers the fast food industry.

Animals Made from Earth Continents

A few of Chinese artists have decided to make interesting calendar which shows photos of different animals made from Earth’s continents and islands.The project has named “Piece together for peace”. Artists were slicing and moving pieces of the land or whole continents on a map in order to create images of different animals. At the end of this article you can also find an animation which shows the whole process of dragging Earth’s parts and creating those amazing images.

Giger’s Skeleton Bar

Author of this art piece i HR Giger. Giger is a Swiss surrealist painter, sculptor, and set designer. He won an Academy Award for Best Achievement for Visual Effects for his design work on the film Alien. Giger got his start with small ink drawings before progressing to oil paintings. For most of his career, Giger has worked predominantly in airbrush, creating monochromatic canvasses depicting surreal, nightmarish dreamscapes. However, he has now largely abandoned large airbrush works in favor of works with pastels, markers or ink. His most distinctive stylistic innovation is that of a representation of human bodies and machines in a cold, interconnected relationship, described as “biomechanical”. His paintings often display fetishistic sexual imagery. His main influences were painters Ernst Fuchs and Salvador Dalí. He met Salvador Dalí, to whom he was introduced by painter Robert Venosa. He was also a personal friend of Timothy Leary. Giger suffers from night terrors and his paintings are all to some extent inspired by his experiences with that particular sleep disorder. He studied interior and industrial design at the School of Commercial Art in Zurich (from 1962 to 1970) and made his first paintings as a means of art therapy.

Bursting Soap-Bubble

Here is what he says about his work: “When I get an idea for a photo I then tend to get the blinkers on and try to perfect the shot. Thus, I’ve kind of specialized on soap bubbles, and flying swans are now becoming another sticking point. I think I’d really like to take photos of people though, but I haven’t got around to this yet.”

Charcoal Drawings Collection

Charcoal is the dark gray residue consisting of impure carbon obtained by removing water and other volatile constituents from animal and vegetation substances. Charcoacunt is usually produced by slow pyrolysis, the heating of wood or other substances in the absence of oxygen. The resulting soft, brittle, lightweight, black, porous material resembles coal. Enjoy this nice and realistic pictures!

Bizarre Ceramic Figures

While the tradition of decorative ceramic figurines is filled with beautiful and serene subject, UK ceramic artist Jessica Harrison takes a decidedly darker approach. Her recent ceramic work uses this tradition as a starting point, subverting it through the addition of morbid imagery such as skulls and blood. In the piece ‘Emily’, a reclining female is quite tranquil until you look closer at its face, which appears to have been completely removed leaving only the skull and a dangling eyeball. In the standing figure ‘Maria’, a beautiful white dress is covered in blood as the woman holds her own guts.

Amazing Origami Sculptures

Origami is the traditional Japanese folk art of paper folding, which started in the 17th century AD and was popularized in the mid-1900s. It has since then evolved into a modern art form. The goal of this art is to transform a flat sheet of material into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques, and as such the use of cuts or glue are not considered to be origami. The number of basic origami folds is small, but they can be combined in a variety of ways to make intricate designs. The most well known origami model is probably the Japanese paper crane. In general, these designs begin with a square sheet of paper whose sides may be different colors or prints. Traditional Japanese origami, which has been practiced since the Edo era (1603–1867), has often been less strict about these conventions, sometimes cutting the paper or using nonsquare shapes to start with.
